5 Simple Ways I’m Building My Greatest Self This Year

Posted on June 1, 2026July 10, 2026 By Mere Penny

(My Approach Is Realistic Instead of Overwhelming)

For the longest time I thought becoming my “best self” had to be complicated. Big goals. Strict routines. Constant hustle. None of that works with my ADHD, let’s be real!

But what I’ve learned is that real growth happens in the small, consistent, intentional choices we make every single day. Here are 5 areas I’ve been focusing on lately that have made the biggest difference:

1. Morning Rituals That Actually Stick

I used to dread my alarm. Now I look forward to waking up. A gentle sunrise alarm clock, a beautifully frothed cup of coffee, and a few minutes of journaling have completely changed how I start my days. Small upgrades, big energy shift. Eating the same protein-rich breakfast daily also cuts down on my decision fatigue while supporting my body.

2. Feeding My Mind with Better Books

I’m making it a non-negotiable to read books that stretch and inspire me. Dare to Lead by Brené Brown and Crucial Conversations have been game-changers for how I show up in my life and relationships.

I find that reading these type of books elevates my thinking, as well as my desire to be the best version of myself – while also providing a framework to make it happen.

3. Creating a Home That Supports Peace

My environment matters more than I realized. Between my Skylight Calendar that keeps life organized and my weighted blanket for evening wind-downs, my home finally feels like a true sanctuary.

I sometimes use a Pomodoro timer when I need to clean up without feeling overwhelmed. A clean space calms my chaos so much.

4. Moving My Body with Joy

I’ve been prioritizing outdoor movement, even when the weather isn’t perfect. A reliable rain jacket means I don’t have an excuse, and a heating pad afterward helps my body recover so I can keep showing up.

So much of my mental health relies on that simple ritual of just walking. There’s something empowering about choosing to do something good for your body, even when it feels hard.

5. Daily Self-Care That Feels Luxurious

Whether it’s diffusing essential oils, doing a quick gua sha routine, or just giving myself permission to rest… these little acts remind me that I’m worth taking care of.

Burnout is real, especially with ADHD. Learning to listen to yourself + take care of your needs isn’t selfish. It’s necessary.

Final Thoughts

The truth is: Becoming your greatest self isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress, compassion, and surrounding yourself with tools and habits that support the life you want to live.
