My High-Protein ADHD Nutrition Strategy That Reduced Food Noise & Supported Peptide Progress

Posted on June 26, 2026July 10, 2026 By Mere Penny

(Protein Is the Solid Foundation of All My Progress!)

Protein has been one of the biggest game-changers in my ADHD management, right up there with my morning walks and supplement stack. It helps stabilize blood sugar, supports dopamine production, and dramatically reduces that constant “food noise” and binge urge that used to derail me.

In this post I’m sharing my practical high-protein strategy, favourite meals (including my daily high protein cereal breakfast and shake), and a recent real-life reminder of why consistency matters.

Why Protein Matters So Much for ADHD

  • Blood Sugar Stability
    • Steady energy instead of crashes that trigger cravings.

  • Dopamine Support
    • Protein provides amino acids (like tyrosine) that help make dopamine, the neurotransmitter often dysregulated in ADHD.

  • Satiety & Food Noise Reduction
    • High protein keeps you fuller longer and quiets the mental chatter about food.

  • Peptide Synergy
    • On retatrutide/tirzepatide, protein helps preserve muscle and supports the appetite-regulating benefits.

My Recent Reminder: When I Ran Out of High-Protein Milk

I recently ran out of my usual high-protein milk and hadn’t made it to the store yet. The drop in my morning protein hit harder than I expected. Cravings came roaring back, food noise increased, and the urge to snack felt strong again.

I quickly switched my breakfast to a beef collagen protein shake that day; the difference was noticeable almost immediately. I was shocked, even though I know how important protein is. It was a very real reminder of how much my brain and body rely on that morning protein anchor.

My Go-To High-Protein Morning Routine

Farm Girl Cinnamon Crisps Breakfast (my usual):

  • 1 serving Farm Girl Cinnamon Crisps high protein gluten-free cereal

  • 10-20 grams organic pumpkin seeds sprinkled in cereal

  • 1–1.5 cups high-protein milk (3.25% or higher)

  • Creatine gummies

  • Side of hard-boiled eggs or Skyr yogurt (I like it better than Greek)

Beef Collagen Protein Shake:

  • 1 scoop Beef Collagen Protein (ATP Labs or Protein Co)

  • 1 cup high-protein milk (3.25% or higher)

  • Handful of ice

  • Optional – 1/2 of a frozen banana or frozen blueberries

  • Blend all ingredients & enjoy

Other Easy High-Protein Meal Ideas

  • Quick Lunch: Skyr yogurt bowl with berries, pumpkin seeds, and a scoop of collagen mixed in.

  • Dinner: Grilled chicken or salmon with roasted veggies and quinoa.

  • Snack: Cheese stick + apple, or beef jerky (look for sugar-free)

  • Post-Workout: Protein shake with added collagen.

Before vs After High-Protein Focus

Practical Tips for ADHD Brains

  • Prep the night before (set out cereal, measure protein powder).

  • Keep backup options like collagen or jerky on hand.

  • Track in Zepp app (works with the Amazfit Active 2 Smart Watch) – seeing the numbers helps with consistency.

  • Pair with your nootropic stack (e.g., L-Tyrosine + protein = dopamine double support).

  • Use a food scale to get accurate nutritional info

Final Thoughts

This isn’t about perfection – it’s about having simple systems that work even on busy or forgetful days. That recent milk shortage was the perfect reminder that small nutrition choices have a big impact on my ADHD symptoms and peptide progress.
